Christmas Head 2014

Saturday 13th December

Previous event: Fairbairns-Following event: Cambridge Winter Head to Head

Men's Coxed Pair

1st out of two crews in a time of 8 minutes 39 seconds (beating the other crew by over two minutes...)

Callum McKenzie reports:

'The Devil's Threesome'. The first stroke went well, the second wasn't so great, but we really picked it up on the third. Yes, the third was a very nice stroke indeed. We continued to count our strokes until we lost count, which was around stroke 11. The middle of the race happened, that was fun. Then the bit after the middle of the race happened - unfortunately not as fun. We need to work on our 'just after the middle bit of the race' in future races. Then we realised that we were actually counting our strokes, because stroke 89 was fantastic. Building from our new found confidence from stroke 89 we continued to row with glory, pride and looking the dogs bollocks to the finish line. The race ended.

Fastest 16++ in a time of 7 minutes 52 seconds (54th fastest boat overall, beaten by, amongst other things, a women's masters eight, a J17 double, and a partridge in a pear tree)

Esther Momcilovic reports:

We were sitting around at the end of the term

Thinking: "What shall we do? There's no lectures to learn"

No more practicals, seminars, books to discuss

When we suddenly thought of the 16++

Downing did it before - we could do it again

But upping the banter by factor of ten

A few beams of wood and the odd strapped boat tie

And lo and behold - our own Ex-Vee-I

It may not have been the most rapid of Beasts

And turning was cumbersome to say the least

But CBC rowers, we don't like to fuss

Just get on and row in the 16++

But then Bow Four said: "Um...coxes should we oughta"

"Really be taking on *quite* so much water?"

Suddenly strokeside all started to cuss

Gradual sinking of 16++

But we made it! Completed, and nobody drowned

Our CBC exploits will be world renowned

Famous forever, let's hear it then, thus

For the wonderful, magical, 16++
